Is Shakeology the Best Meal Replacement? | A SUPER SHAKE?

Is Shakeology the Best Meal Replacement

There’s nothing else on the market like Beachbody’s Shakeology. It’s packed with antioxidants, probiotics, prebiotics, digestive enzymes, vitamins, proteins, and minerals. So, is Shakeology the best meal replacement?

Shakeology is the best meal replacement shake because it’s a nutrient dense super shake. It contains globally sourced blends of superfoods: super greens, adaptogens, digestive enzymes, probiotics, prebiotics, fiber, protein, and vitamins & minerals. All of these nutrients are what your body needs.

Read on to learn more about Shakeology and how it can help you lose weight, boost your immune system, and improve your overall health. I’ll also explain why it’s not the best post-workout shake and recommend an alternative to Shakeology.

How Shakeology Works To Replace Meals

There are several things that I’d like you to know before you start drinking Shakeology. Let’s shed some light on this meal-replacing shake.

Ingredients in Shakeology

The Beachbody Shakeology shake has some of the most nutrient-dense food that exists, period.

It’s a highly nutritional shake that contains all 9 essential amino acids that your body can’t create and needs to get from nutrition. You get 17 g of protein per serving from whey (whey-based formulas), rice (plant-based formulas), quinoa, pea, and flax.

However, what makes Shakeology stand out are the superfruits, prebiotics, and probiotics it offers. Here are a few of the healthy ingredients from Shakeology’s long list:

  • Pomegranate
  • Schisandra
  • Whole coffee fruit
  • Acerola cherry
  • Yacon root
  • Chicory root
  • Digestive enzymes
  • Pea fiber

The antioxidants found in healthy superfoods reduce the risk of cancer, cardiovascular diseases and even slow down aging.

If you don’t know what prebiotics are, they’re plant fibers that probiotics in your gut need to reproduce.

The prebiotics combined with probiotics and digestive enzymes found in Shakeology allows your body to digest food more efficiently, preventing stomach upsets. Studies have shown that probiotics reduce your chance of gastrointestinal diseases.

That said, Shakeology is a healthy, nutritious shake that can supplement your diet. However, drinking Shakeology is not an excuse to eat junk food!

While Shakeology is a wonderful healthy shake for your diet, you should empty your fridge now and replace all your meals with Shakeology. Keep reading as I explain why.

Keep Whole Foods In Your Diet

You’ll be hard-pressed to find a single nutritionist that recommends replacing all of your meals with a single shake.

Shakeology does contain many different ingredients, making it a very nutrient-dense, but your body still needs real, whole food. That being said, replacing one meal from time to time is not a bad idea.

For example, I’m not a big breakfast fan. However, my mornings will often include Chocolate Vegan Shakeology and a banana. Sometimes I’ll also add some peanut butter into my Shakeology shake as well.

You can even mix Shakeology with oats, almonds, chia seeds, and some milk of your choice for a perfect, well-balanced breakfast. If you also don’t have any appetite in the morning, you can probably drink a shake to start your day with a healthy treat.

Also, a serving of Shakeology contains 17 g of protein, a decent amount your body can use for muscle protein synthesis. And having some probiotics and digestive enzymes first thing in the morning is also great because your body is ready to digest your brunch, lunch, and dinner later on.

However, why can’t Shakeology replace a meal if it’s healthy? In the simplest terms, it simply doesn’t have enough calories.

One Shakeology shake has only about 150 calories, which is less than an average candy bar. You can have a shake when you’re feeling hungry, and it’s okay to replace one meal a few times a week with Shakeology.

However, you shouldn’t have Shakeology instead of lunch every single day because you’ll end up in a caloric deficit, which is great for weight loss if that’s your goal.

So, the verdict is that you can have Shakeology if you have cravings for something sweet. It can’t replace your salmon salad for lunch, but it can replace a bag of potato chips.

Drink Shakeology Before a Meal To Lose Weight

If you drink Shakeology before having lunch with your extended family, you won’t eat nearly as much.

To be honest, I can’t control myself when it comes to huge meals. That’s why I’ve started drinking Shakeology whenever I expect a large dinner.

I don’t eat nearly as much food as I used to, largely thanks to Shakeology. Your brain receives a signal from your gut that you’re full, so even the most mouth-watering roast potatoes lose their appeal all of a sudden.

Looking for a super simple way to fight cravings and lose weight?… If you find Shakeology to be a little pricey, try Focused Energy BEVVY instead.

Focused Energy BEVVY

Focused Energy BEVVY contains the following ingredients:

  • Energy + Focused Support: Rhodiola, American Ginseng, Green Tea, Guarana, and Panax Ginseng to help improve alertness and attention, support mental clarity and focus, and provide a wholesome boost of energy.
  • Cravings + Weight Loss Support: Green Tea Phytosomes, Brewer’s Yeast Peptides, and Fiber help curb cravings and support healthy weight loss with regular use.

I wasn’t so sure about it myself for a while but after drinking it for a while before I eat lunch, I noticed a huge difference in my energy after lunch.

Before Focused Energy BEVVY, I slowed down a lot at work and just didn’t care about getting anything done.

Now, I’m more focused and getting work done fast… Plus, I’m not eating as much during lunch.

There’s also Lemon BEVVY and Pomegranate Berry BEVVY if you don’t want the extra pick me up.

Drink Shakeology After a Meal To Gain Weight

I just explained how Shakeology could help you lose weight by controlling your appetite. But what if you have the opposite problem and can’t eat a lot?

In that case, you can have your regular meals as you usually do, but then drink Shakeology after every meal.

Some people say that you should eat junk food to gain weight, but that’s a myth. Stuffing yourself with fries, sodas, chocolate, hamburgers, and other junk food isn’t a healthy way to add weight.

But if you drink 1 or 2 Shakeology shakes after every single meal with extra healthy shake ingredients, you’ll introduce 500-600 additional calories to your diet, most of which come from high-quality whey and pea protein.

Exercise regularly while on a high-protein diet, and you’ll see results fast. I guarantee that you can add a few pounds every week if you follow this plan. Just remember that you shouldn’t skip any meals when trying to gain weight.

Best Shake for Post-Workout Recovery

All right, so Shakeology contains 17 g of protein and all amino acids, so you can just drink that instead of a protein shake after a workout, right?

Well, it’s a half-decent post-workout shake, but Beachbody Chocolate Whey Recover is still a way better choice.

Other Beachbody Recovery flavors include: Orange Whey and Plant Based Chocolate.

Beachbody Chocolate Recovery

Chocolate Whey Recover is better because it contains 20 g of protein with a perfect BCAA ratio of 2:1:1. And that ratio is best for muscle protein synthesis. Your muscles need leucine, isoleucine, and valine to kickstart recovery after a resistance workout.

Also, the protein in Chocolate Whey Recover uses a protein formula with a blend of fast, intermediate, and slow-digesting proteins.

The whey found in Shakeology is absorbed quickly by your body, and the casein takes a long time to digest, so your muscles always have sufficient protein throughout the day.

Another vital ingredient on the list is pomegranate extract, which is scientifically proven to accelerate recovery. For naturals, quick recovery is crucial to get you back in the gym as soon as possible.

It also contains 6 grams of sugar that can quickly replenish your glycogen stores and help your body build muscle.

The 280 mg of sodium and 500 mg of potassium per serving can restore lost electrolytes from sweating.

So, it’s a perfect post-workout shake that contains everything your body needs.

Best Shakeology Alternative

Ample Complete Meal Shake is a fantastic alternative to Shakeology.

Ample Vanilla Canister

It doesn’t contain the same long list of superfoods, but it has some other tricks up its sleeve. The main difference is the high-quality fats from coconut, sunflower, and macadamia nuts in Ample.

Shakeology has hardly any fats, which can be good or bad, depending on the rest of your diet.

Also, there’s a ketogenic version if you’re on a keto diet. Shakeology contains sugar, so it’s not keto-friendly.

Ample comes in large, nice-looking bottles, and one serving has 34 g of protein, which is double that of Shakeology. Similarly, Ample is more of a meal replacement drink than a post-workout shake.

Check out my Ample Shake Review Here

Ample’s nutrient-dense formula has a few interesting ingredients, such as:

  • Proteins from whey, collagen, and pea.
  • Fats from coconut, sunflower, and macadamia nuts.
  • Carbs from oats, tapioca, and sweet potato (also serve as prebiotics).
  • Fibers from chicory root, acacia, psyllium, and green banana.
  • Antioxidants and polyphenols from wheatgrass and barley grass.

53% of the calories in Ample originally come from fats, so keep that in mind. If you’re in a calorie deficit, the additional calories can add up. So, you should only drink it as a meal replacement.

You can combine it with a low-calorie fruit like strawberries or watermelon, and you’ll prevent cravings throughout the day.

But if you’re trying to gain weight, having one or two Ample shakes daily as a snack is a fantastic way to build lean muscle.

Final Thoughts

Shakeology is an incredible meal or snack replacement that can supplement your healthy diet. Despite its high protein content, you should still go with a protein post-workout shake for muscle recovery.

And if you want an alternative shake, Ample is one of the best meal replacement drinks. It contains significantly more protein and fat than Shakeology, so it’s a perfect choice for weight gain.

However, I’d still recommend Shakeology over Ample overall because of the long list of superfoods. Ample and any other meal replacement shake don’t come close to that.
